As he said it, the class was a sea of movement. Everyone reached over and quietly touched his or her lab partner on the arm, as if now that we were conscious of it, we would feel the electric repulsion, just like when you realize that you are breathing, or blinking. You’ve been doing it all along without internalizing it, yet once you realize, those smooth actions become awkward and foreign.
